Afrik-Akili

Afrik-Akili

Visual Identity · 2022

The Context

Afrik-Akili is a Club of Rome declaration of positive self-definition for the people of Africa, launched on the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples in 2022. The declaration celebrates Africa's ecological richness, its ancient wisdom, and its role in the future of humanity. The initiative needed a visual identity that could carry the weight of the declaration while feeling celebratory, warm, and rooted in the visual traditions the declaration itself references.

The Approach

The visual language is rooted in West African Adinkra symbolism, chosen for its connection to the project's core ideas: interconnection, community, wisdom, and futurity. The color palette is composed of warm tones that echo the sun, sand, and the patterns found in traditional clothing. A bold, vibrant identity that brings an energy of celebration of African cultures.

The Impact

The identity launched alongside the declaration and gave visual form to a manifesto that continues to circulate across African and global networks.
